We specialise in underwater civil engineering, commercial diving to 50 metres, inland and coastal work (up to 12 miles offshore), harbour and dock maintenance, salvage, sluice / gate maintenance, structural inspections and repairs, windfarm operations, hydrographical surveys, bridge inspections and pipeline installations, to name but a few of our services.
Works to a gas pipeline (600mm – Penicuik to Boon) that passes beneath Leader Water, near Lauder in the Scottish Borders.
Inspections had revealed that, due to scour, the top of the pipeline had become exposed and therefore was susceptible to damage.
Also, erosion had undermined a section of the bank close to the pipeline crossing.
Northern Divers were employed through their existing National Framework Contract to undertake the survey, design and repair of the river bank and bed in order to maintain protection to the underlying gas pipeline.
200mm gas pipeline, NL0014 Reading Branch, crosses a watercourse, The Cut, just north of the M4 near Maidenhead.
Inspections had revealed that, because of scour partly caused by upstream vegetation and debris, a section of the riverbank had eroded to the point where the pipe’s swan-neck, previously within the bank, had become exposed, putting the pipeline at risk of damage.
Northern Divers were employed through an existing National Framework Contract to undertake the survey, design and repair of the eroded bank in order to maintain protection to the pipeline.
A gas pipeline (600mm - PL1075 - Winwick - Shelvington) that passes close to the north bank of Sankey Brook, just north of Sankey Railway Viaduct, Newton-le-Willows.
Inspections had revealed that, due to erosion, the north bank of the watercourse had partially collapsed, thereby reducing the cover to the pipeline.
All indications were that, through continued erosion, the pipeline would eventually be exposed and therefore be susceptible to damage.
At the above location a 150mm diameter gas pipeline crosses the water course. The water course at this point is an average 22m in width with a max depth at time of inspection of 2.5m.
The gas pipeline running below the riverbed has from recent surveys been found to be exposed over a distance of 6.0m. The level of exposure ranges from crown of pipe up to between 8-5 O’clock positions.
Northern Divers were requested by to carry out remedial works at the above location, the proposed were to place protection over the exposed pipe section in the river.
An Existing gas pipeline (Barrow - Vickers - Millom) that passes beneath the Duddon Estuary, Cumbria.
Inspections revealed that during recent storms the bank at the edge of the sands, near Askam-in-Furness, had severely eroded, exposing the pipeline and leaving it at risk of damage.
Northern Divers were employed through their existing National Framework Contract with National Grid to undertake the survey, design and site works in order to maintain protection to the gas pipeline.
457mm/18” diameter Quinton Oaklands - Longbridge gas pipeline. The pipeline is contained with a 24” sleeve that protects the pipeline as it passes over the watercourse. Inspections have revealed that the blockwork walls that previously supported the sleeve have collapsed, causing the sleeve to drop and rest on top of the gas pipeline contained within.
